Yacht Sign Repair and Refurbishment

During the closed season, it’s traditionally the time for captains and crew to make repairs, repaint and get ship-shape for the next season. It’s also an excellent opportunity to review your existing yacht sign and rejuvenate any weathered or worn letters and accessories.

Rather than opting to replace your existing signage with brand new, at Lumenautica we can take your existing tired yacht lettering, refresh and renew them to look like brand new.

Failed LEDs

All LEDs have a finite life and from time to time you may find a section of a letter become dull or faded. In this instance, blown or mismatched LEDs systems within your yacht nameboard can be the cause and need to be replaced and re-sealed. Some systems may use inferior diffusion techniques within the acrylic layer and unappealing LED spotting can be seen around letter edges. To prevent this, we can replace old acrylic sections for Lumenautica’s homogeneously diffused LED system, even if we were not the original manufacturers.

Re-polishing of stainless steel yacht names

Stainless steel is one, if not, the best material to use for yacht signage. Not only for its bright polished mirror effect, synonymous with the yachts the world over, but also for its resistance to the marine environment and harsh sea going conditions. However, multiple seasons of wash-downs, detailing and wind blasting from salt and sand spray, can take its toll on the beautifully polished stainless steel.

The good news is that we can take your old and tired looking stainless steel letters and bring back their original ‘bright mirror’ super mirror polish finish. Scratches can be removed along with pitting and rust bleed. Once your old letters are off the vessel, it’s the perfect opportunity to consider a stainless steel repolish, especially if your old letters are being sent back for repairs.

Cracked or broken acrylic

Chipped, cracked, crazed or broken acrylic yacht letter sections can be removed and replaced with newly machined and polished versions. To replicate old letters, the most efficient way is to share with Lumenautica your existing yacht name artwork. This can be a digital file that the original shipyard has access to or may simply be to hand on the vessel and can be emailed to us with a set of dimensions.

Re-paint of painted yacht letters

As with any painted finish onboard your vessel, the salty marine environment combined with hours of unforgiving sunshine and UV degradation can cause painted surfaces to dull or peel over time. We will take old painted yacht letters and our experienced paint shop team can repair, prepare and repaint, using well-known and regarded yacht industry standard paint systems such as Awl Grip, Alex Seal, Jotun and International.

Most of our solid colour finishes have a three base coats minimum and two coats minimum of either gloss or matt clear to seal in and give additional UV protection.

A complete refurbishment can transform a tired and weathered-looking yacht sign into what can essentially be a brand new sign, lasting you many more seasons to come and in the best possible condition.
